It was this unwavering commitment to customer service which saw Paper Boss being given the award by the MEA Business Awards.
Finding a Winner of Best Consumables Supplier
Choosing a winner in each category included gathering additional findings from online resources, which are available in the public domain such as brand history, services, products, social media presence, presence in the industry and reviews.
“The final selection was made based upon evidence of expertise within the given field, dedication to customer service, satisfaction and retention of customers, and an on-going commitment to excellence”; said Kaven Cooper, Account Executive for the MEA Business Awards.
Humble Beginnings
Gustave Prinsloo, founder and director of Paper Boss, saw a clear gap in the market when it came to Till Slips. He started going door to door to sell advertising on the back of till slips that get printed at every store and handed to customers once they have paid.
“Businesses had the opportunity to advertise to existing customers – people who are already spending money with them. They could promote current or upcoming specials, an affiliated business, or for that matter, their menu in the case of a restaurant.”
With hard work and determination and some help and guidance from his investor, Gustav was able to land the first of the large, national retailers. “I found myself loading up my Polo and a rental trailer, driving across South Africa delivering the stock myself. It was hard work, but it really gave me the opportunity to meet a lot of interesting and dynamic people.”
It was this determination that saw the inevitable growth of Paper Boss. “As I was doing the deliveries, the business owners would ask me if I could supply them with other business consumables. I was not going to let logistics get in the way of business and always found a way to get what they needed at the best price possible.”
The Right Partner
As with any business that experiences growth, Gustav realised that he needed a partner to ensure the sustainable growth of the company. He knew who he wanted, and it was at this time that Johann Blom became his new business partner. Johann, being a wizard with logistics and administration and Gustav taking command of sales and marketing, ensured that the growth Paper Boss experienced was not only sustainable, but allowed for further development within the business sector.
“Paper Boss would not have been able to grow if it wasn’t for my reliable and committed partner, Johann. I will always be grateful for the fact that we crossed paths!” Gustav mentioned.
Expanding Horizons
Abraham Maslow – Psychologist and the creator of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs once said – “You will either step forward into growth or you will step back into safety.” One thing is for sure, this dynamic duo are taking big steps forward into growth. With the success of Paper Boss, they have since expanded their horizons to include an additional two businesses into their fold. First, with the launch of Boss Branding and more recently, the acquisition of Skoonma Clothing.
Words of Wisdom
When asked what the secret to their success was, Gustav replied “For us it is pretty simple:
Focus on customer experience and exceed any and all expectations. Hire the right people who work hard and are dedicated to your company’s success. Be willing to adapt as this is the only way that you will be able to switch direction quickly to respond to changing circumstances. Last but by no means least, always give back to your community – Social responsibility should be more than just a phrase used in the boardroom. It needs to be backed up with actual action that makes a difference in people’s lives.”
And when it is said like that it is easy to see why this award has found its home at Paper Boss!
